NEUW presents ART/WORK
Featuring Diogo Rodrigues
For tattoo artist Diogo Rodrigues, his line of work was never part of the plan. “I started tattooing when I was at university in Portugal like 12 years ago, I just got a little kit from eBay and started practising on friends,” he says. “And then I started doing friends of friends, and friends of friends of friends – it kind of just took over.” Rodrigues takes inspiration from woodblock prints and anthropology – his ultra-fine, black line-work style is always heavily researched. “The most rewarding feeling of the tattoo for me is like, knowing that someone, a random person, wants my drawing on their skin forever.”
For #NeuwArtWork, Rodrigues takes us behind the scene at his East London studio that he shares with partner and creative collaborator Ronan McKenzie.
"Tattooing can be like a meditative experience. I like to wear my jeans looser, because I feel more relaxed"
